October 3, 1998

Thirteen years ago a teenage boy and a teenage girl attended a concert at Oceanside Pier and professed their "like" for one another. Fast forward to today, that same boy is now a man, a husband, and a dad. He was out the door early this morning to go study God's word with other husbands and dads. Before he left he kissed that same girl who is now a woman, a wife and a mom.

I don't know why the details of that day are more vivid to me than even our wedding day. I don't know why I can remember exactly what I wore, that I curled my hair and spritzed my wrists with Tommy Girl perfume. I remember the gray Dogwood t-shirt he had on and his Van's tennis shoes, yet I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday (did I eat lunch yesterday?).

Here's what I do know, the Lord hand picked us for each other and blessed us with one another early in life. He allowed us to grow up together and strengthened us in that process. It hasn't always been easy, but we are a ministry to each other. Our relationship has refined us and brought protection that we wouldn't have had apart.

I like to think I remember that day so vividly so that on days when the kids won't stop crying, I don't get to shower or there's bad traffic and he's running late I can think back on the free-spirited girl from Carlsbad who had the hots for the Santa Fe Christian lineman and smile. That day was the opening to our love story. I'm grateful the Lord is the author and there is still so much story to be told. I love my big guy more today than I ever have.

this was right after I gave birth to our third child, in our bedroom. yes, we've seen each other through a lot!!

Maybe I should go buy another bottle of Tommy Girl...Oh Honey!!
