Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year!!! This morning I ate this for breakfast...so much for resolutions (just kidding). Sarah and I both decided that resolutions cannot start on a Sunday, so therefore I will eat healthy tomorrow...we'll see.

It's been a long lazy week. Drake was off this week. We did family walks, had a breakfast playdate with friends, an impromptu night cap with Cara and James, a glitzy adult night with good friends and a very cozy New Year's Eve. I avoided laundry like the plague, ate too much and enjoyed afternoon snuggles on the couch with the kiddos. It was a good week.

Yesterday morning we were feeling brave and went on a little adventure so to speak. We traveled to the Coaster station on foot and headed for Solana Beach.

Once there, we loaded up the joggers and headed toward Cardiff. VG's donuts and acai bowls luring us the whole way.

Cute little mama was a trooper, can you believe she's due in 3 weeks?

mmmmmm, yum

After our little pit stop we had to walk as fast as we could to the Encinitas station to catch the Coaster back up to Carlsbad. We literally felt like we were on the Amazing Race and I was just praying poor Jess wouldn't go into labor.

Sammy loves acai
As an added bonus the Farmer's Market had just started in our neck of the woods so we made our way over.

Sammy was anxious to stretch her legs after so much stroller time

The kids sampled fruit and kettle corn while we adults discovered some amazing fish tacos at one of the stands. We might be making the Farmer's Market a weekly thing...let us know if you ever want to join.

Well January is here and two very important birthdays are one the horizon. One to be determined (we're trying as hard as we can to "walk" her out) and the other on the 16th. Sweet Sammy has been in our life for almost a year now. My heart is torn. My baby is going to be one. How did it happen? It's gone too fast. Once again I'm reminded of the importance of slowing down. Enjoying the moments and not rushing through life because it will happen regardless.

This year has no doubt been one of the tougher ones. Three kids, my dad's accident, a job change. While I have experienced weariness, I've experienced great triumph and moments where I literally didn't think I could be any happier. The Lord has been faithful through it all. Encouraging me when needed, carrying me when needed, but also showing me strengths I didn't know I had. I have a wonderful husband, supportive family, great friends and three little ones that the Lord has entrusted under my watch. I am blessed and I am excited for 2012.

As for resolutions...I'm determined to make quiet time with the Lord a bigger priority (can't wait to start my new Bible study this Wednesday). I feel like I've emerged 2011 with a healthier sense of self and I want to continue you this in the new year. God made me the way I am. I don't want to look to Hollywood or other women as a measuring stick of beauty or self acceptance. I want to teach my children that we are all "fearfully and wonderfully" made. I will exercise to be strong and eat to fuel my body. My prayer is that I will go through 2012 without comparing myself to others or obsessing over eating too much (it happens). What about you?? Any resolutions or goals to share??

I will leave you with these because they're just too stinkin' cute not to share

Happy New Year!!

  1. I will definitely have to come with the next time you do one of those adventures! I'm not sure Jake would make it without a fair amount of commentary on how far we've walked. He's not one to walk long distances for fun. You'd probably think otherwise given his physique. And I'm so glad you're enjoying those red velvet cookie sandwiches. Juliana told me yesterday that I need to make them again soon. I said next time I'm going to try to make them smaller so she can eat one all by herself. But they were definitely delicious. I might even try out chocolate. It has definitely been quite a year, I'm ready for 2012 and for new beginnings. Happy New Year :)

  2. Wow that's a huge distance; Solana Beach to Encinitas - way to go! Good thing you stopped for nourishment on the way. :-) What the heck is that cookie thing? Red Velvet? I'll have you know, Red Velvet is my favorite (ahem, Sarah...). I love the Farmers Market; there is one in Encinitas on Sundays that I try to go to every week. Food for the soul. Happy New Year - see you soon.
