Happy Birthday Samantha Lou

Sometimes the greatest gifts are the ones you never even knew you wanted. Baby Sister when that test came up positive it took my breath away. I wasn't sure I was ready or capable of caring for another baby, but you little beauty, YOU take my breath away.  Samantha Lou today we celebrate you.

The Lord knew what a perfect fit you would be to our family. That Juliana needed a little tagalong to "care for" in her best big sister way. That Trent needed someone just slightly pesty to teach him patience and self-control. That Mommy and Daddy needed to be yet again in awe of God's abundant blessings, his faithfulness and the amazing ability our hearts have to stretch with love for our children. I can't believe you're already one.

There's hundreds of things I love about you, but at the top of my list, you LOVE your mama.

What a difference a year makes...

On Saturday we celebrated you sweet Samantha with family, a few close friends and lots of sweets!

Complete with a lollipop cake (made with love by Grandma) and cupcakes

Another thing I love about you, you're a princess. As demonstrated by the way you handled your cake.

You actually looked at me like you were questioning where your fork was, so you used the lollipop stick instead.

You finally ditched the fork and went for it

Oh my sweet baby, I love that you're so snuggly. I love that you prefer nursing to eating. I love that you walk like you've been riding a horse all day. I love that you've already figured out how to make us laugh. I love that you love to put things on your head (dish towel, swim rings) but refuse to keep a headband on. I love that you already "tell on" your big sister and brother. I love your soft skin and baby breath. I love to kiss your dimpled shoulders and chubby toes. I love that you make others work for your affection. I love watching you get in the middle of the action with the big kids. I love that I didn't know how much I wanted you and now I can't imagine our lives without you.

I pray that the Lord would give me wisdom to be the best mommy to you. To instruct you in His ways. To teach you that true beauty comes from obedience to the Lord and that you truly are a princess in His kingdom. I pray that you would be kind, gentle and loving toward others. Most of all, I pray that you would grow up to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and that your heart would be soft for His will for you life. Happy Birthday Samantha Lou, I love you more than you'll ever know.

  1. I am so bummed we were not at this party :( You all look so beautiful (as usual). Happy 1st Birthday Miss Samantha! I love you so much and I can hardly believe that a year ago at this time I got a phone call that it was time to come over and prepare for your arrival! Wow, time flies little one and I just know you (and your siblings) are all going to continue to steal our hearts. This post made me cry - as if thats difficult to do - and Julie, the lollipop cake is gorgeous! I think it might just be my most favorite cake you've made yet! Wow!

I hope you're all doing better over there and that Trent has made a full recovery. Thank goodness for 3 days weekends!

    xoxo

  3. Wow what a fun day for our little love.. Samantha, Happy Birthday..you have accomplished so much in one year. I love the way you snuggle in to me when I pick you up and that you love your grandma. I love that right now I am among the "chosen" that you allow to love all over you. I know you will grow and want down and want to be let alone soon enough. I laugh over the way you want to feed yourself. We have to have two or three spoons going at the same time. It's quite a process but it shows your determination to do it yourself. You are so dear. I pray you will grow to love the Lord and follow His ways. I am grateful for the gift you are to this family. May God be with you may His face shine upon you and may you grow in His love. Happy, happy Birthday our sweet Sammy Lou!!! I love you to the moon and back!!
